Stay calm if you are unable to travel to Taiwan to savour their street food, we are bringing the recipes to you! Known as Xiao Chi (小吃) or  “little eats”, Taiwanese street food can be found in restaurants, shophouses with sidewalk tables, food carts or the night market. Like many cuisines, Taiwanese food emphasizes on the umami-ness in each dish. In this menu, Chef Shih Erh has selected a balance of dry and soupy, rice and noodle dishes to tempt your palate.

Menu

1. Braised Pork Belly Rice (卤肉饭)

This needs no introduction. Widely regarded as one of the most comforting Chinese dish, this beloved rice bowl with tender-braised pork belly drizzled with a rich and savory gravy, accompanied with braised eggs and green veggie is a must-learn and must-cook recipe for all homes.

2. Braised Beef Noodle (红烧牛肉麺)

Hong Shao (紅燒) is often directly translated as red-braised because of the cooking method, which involves frying the beef with aromatics to add flavor and color to the dish. This noodle dish has its origins in mainland China but became very popular in Taiwan after the war. Since then this delicious beef noodle has become a firm classic of the Chinese cuisine. You will be learning how to make a mouth-watering broth and beef chunks paired with fresh la mian by Handpicked

3. Basil Leaves Salt & Pepper Chicken (椒盐鸡)

Yán Sū Jī (in Mandarin) is one of Taiwanese favorite night market munchies, normally eaten out of a basket or paper bag. These puffy, golden and crispy bite-sized chicken fillets can be devoured with any kind of toppings made up of dried spices, ranging from garlic, onion, Sichuan peppers, seaweed or even wasabi.
