Few things brighten up a party table as much as a big batch of home-baked bread. Try something different for your next potluck or brunch with Christopher’s all-new recipes, easy to make and created to feed and please a crowd.
1. Savoury Taro Buns *
Underneath their crunchy panko crusts lies soft purple sweet potato bun dough, wrapped around a filling of mashed steamed taro, lup cheong, mushrooms and shallots – all of the charms of wu gok, but without the deep-frying! A substantial and hearty bread.
2. Spinach & Cheese Dinner Rolls
Fresh spinach puree adds colour, flavour and a special chewy softness to these tender, cheese-flecked breads, which go equally well with western (soups, stews) and Asian (sambal hae bee hiam sandwich!) dishes. Great for soaking up sauces.
This classic German snacking bread has a crisp top and a moist, springy, super fluffy crumb. Vanilla-scented sour cream dough is studded with cubes of butter, showered with flaked almonds and cinnamon sugar, and baked until golden. If you grew up with ‘butter sugar buns’ from our traditional local bakeries, you’ll love this.
