Hainanese cuisine has established itself here with many well-loved dishes that has become comfort food to many Singaporeans. In this new class, Chef David will share two very popular dishes and one that is authentically Hainanese but less commonly found. Get ready to go back to the roots of Hainan cuisine!
1. Hainanese Chicken Rice
Easily touted as one of the most go-to food both for locals and visitors alike, this dish looks deceptively simple, but cooking Hainanese chicken and rice actually requires much technique and patience. Every component requires precision, including the very essential spicy chilli sauce that is a must-have.
2. Hainanese Pork Chop
We are also walking down memory lane with a savory Hainanese pork chop in the days before the use of tomato ketchup. Learn to make an authentic mouth-watering sauce, fried potatoes and caramelised tomatoes to complete this comforting dish that will please everyone at home.
3. Hainanese Jia Ji Duck
The last Hainanese dish is Jiaji Duck. This is one of the four signature dishes of Hainan Island and the only dish that can be traced back to Malaya. This duck was brought back to Hainan Island by returning migrants and became one of the most beloved dishes there.
