From flour dust and raw sugar to one-of-a-kind delightful, colourful desserts – Shona James of SugarBud Cakes has been baking and decorating cakes for more than 20 years. It all started out as a hobby driven by pure passion when studying abroad, and today that passion has ripened into a sweet venture.
Besides attending courses with world-renowned instructors such as Debbie Brown, Kaysie Lackey and Sharon Wee, Shona has also taken time off work to pursue a number of professional courses with Wilton and PME.
Not many people can say they made their own wedding cake, but Shona is one of them (yes, she was late for her own wedding). Whenever she gets the time, Shona loves to share her cake decorating skills with others through a variety of classes in buttercream and fondant.
Trained in hospitality, law and marketing, she works full time in an NGO overseeing corporate communications and service excellence. Shona is married with two children aged 8 and 11, who are her biggest fans and critics.
Her free hours at home are always flavoured with precious moments around the kitchen and family room baking with her kids, browsing online for inspiration or shopping for sugarcraft tools and kitchen gadgets.
